The goal of the current investigation is to construct an artificial neural network (ANN) to estimate the ultimate capacity of the composite columns consisting of a rectangular steel tube filled with concrete (RSTFC) under concentric loads. The experimental results of (222) samples collected from previous researches were used in constructing the proposed network. Totally (45) specimens were randomly chosen for network testing while the remaining (177) speci-mens were used to train the network. The information used to create the ANN model is ar-ranged into (6) variables represents the different dimensions and properties of the RSTFC col-umns. Based on the input information, a formulated network was used to estimate the columns' ultimate capacity. Results obtained from the formulated network, available laboratory tests, and Eurocode 4 and AISC equations were compared. The network values were closer to the laboratory values than the calculated values according to the specifications of the mentioned codes. It has been shown that the formulated ANN model has a high ability to estimate the RCFST ultimate capacity under concentric loads
New composite reinforced concrete beams, in which reinforced concrete component is connected to steel T-section, are proposed. The shear connection between the two components, the reinforced concrete and the T-section, is provided by the stirrups that are required for the reinforced concrete component to resist the applied shear. Experimental tests in addition to numerical analysis were conducted to determine the behaviour and strength of such beams under pure torsion. Full scale one conventional reinforced concrete beam, T1, and two composite reinforced concrete ones, T2 and T3, were tested. The degree of shear connection between the two components of beams T2 and T3 was changed by varying the number of stirrups which are used as shear connectors. The experimental results revealed approximately same torsional stiffness for the three beams at the uncracked concrete stage. The torsional strength of the composite reinforced concrete beams was greater than that of ordinary reinforced concrete one by 11% and 27% for beams T2 and T3, respectively. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was conducted using program ABAQUS. To model the shear connection in composite reinforced concrete beam, the stirrups were connected to the web of the steel T-section by springs at the location of the stirrups. Good agreement is obtained between the results of the experimental tests and the finite element analysis. The ratios of experimental results to those of finite element analysis for torsional strength are approximately one. Under the pure torsion loading the degree of shear connection is found to have no effect on torsional capacity of beams.
This paper presents the experimental results of composite slabs under static and impact loading. Total of six specimens classified one specimen test under static loading and the remaining five were tests under impact dynamic loading with different parameters as type of connections and degree of interaction of composite slab. Low - velocity impact test was adopted by select the falling mass (4 kg) made from steel material and formed as ball shape without nose. The ball dropped freely from height of (2.4 m) and strikes the top of composite slab. The designed dimensions of specimens is (500×500×60 mm) as reinforced concrete slab that reinforced by mesh of (RBC) and the steel plate is (3 mm) in thickness. Deflection due to first crack is recorded, number of blows caused first crack and failure were counted. The test results showed that the welded stud connectors gives high strength capacity and resistance under static and impact dynamic loadings than other than type of connections, also, full interaction as degree of interaction is better than others
Ten simply supported deep beams with high strength concrete (C55 MPa) have been casted and subjected to a four-point loading test. Different parameters were examined for their influence on specimen behavior. These parameters were the shear span to overall depth ratio (a/h), the overall depth of deep beams (h), and additional anchorage length beyond the centerline of support (la). The experimental results show that the beam capacity decreases as the shear span to the overall depth ratio increases, and the overall depth and embedment length decrease. The major effect of anchorage length on the shear strength is studied. Different failure modes were observed which do not match strut-and-tie failure modes. The shear compression and anchorage failures were con-trolled in the high compressive concrete deep beams due to bottom steel yielding. Finally, the ex-perimental test results are compared with predictions of the strut-and-tie method according to the ACI 318-14 and a good agreement was found.
The term "fire safety engineering" refers to the process of applying scientific and engineering principles to the effects of fire in order to lessen the number of deaths and property damage caused by fire. This is done by determining the risks that are involved and providing the most effective method for implementing measures of prevention or protection. The paper showing experimental results of ordinary concrete columns made of "NSC" subjected to axial load and cyclic firing is presented in this study. the bearing capacity of the column decreased. all samples have been loading an eccentric load with "e = 75 mm" ,"e / h = 0.50," and the ratio Celsius (30%Pu) continuously through the burning period. The first column(C1) was the sample control with out exposure cyclic fire , and the second column was subjected to four burning cycles over the course of four days, with a duration specific of "45 minutes" for each cycle, at a temperature of "400 °C", and the third column was subjected to four burning cycles over the course of four days, with a duration longer amount of "75 minutes" for each cycle, at a temperature of "400 °C, ", the four column was subjected to four burning cycles over the course of an of four days, with a duration specific of "45 minutes" for each cycle, at a temperature of "600 °C " , the bearing capacity of the column decreased. that to be amount losses (C2,C3 and C4) comparison to (C1) equile ( 27.20 , 29.12, and 36.40)% respectively. the fracture load of the experimental columns varied by decreasing with these variables. Additionally, the depth and spread of the cracks increased with the increase in burning duration and target temperature.
The research studies the prediction of thermal characteristics for open designer shape of solar collector of flat plate of area 2.34m2, connected to water tank of 85 liter capacity . Mathematical model was represented and made the system of private accounts, transactions and through the creation of mathematical equations and solved numerically using the method of Finite Difference Method (FDM).The results of research is to obtain hot water at average temperatures up to 520C at mid-day during February month, as the water temperature is at its lowest value in this month in Baghdad city, with an average efficiency of the system up to 53.6% .This predictive study is compared with a previous measurement work and confirmed that the results match well.
Materials selection is a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems because the large numberof factors affecting on decision making. The best choice of available material is critical to thecompetitiveness and success of the manufacturing organisation. The analytical hierarchy process(AHP) is an important tool to solve MCDM problems. The choosing process of suitable material(such as a refrigerant fluid) for the Air Condition System (ACS) is faced with challenges such aslack of a systematic approach in setting the optimal performance in terms of its impact on theenvironment and operation. Selecting process for the one refrigerant from a range suitable ofsuitable refrigerant is complex process. The study presents a comparative performance analysisof ACS for using four alternative refrigerants R290, R410, R404 and R22. Then, one of these suitablerefrigerant is selected. The comparison is based on three criteria system operation, environmentand maintenance.Novels ACS performance assessment model is proposed based on an analytical hierarchy process(AHP). The model is based on two main criteria of ACS, quantitative criteria, cooling capacity(CC), coefficient of performance (COP), etc.).And qualitative criteria (Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), Global Warming Potential (GWP) andmaintenance cost (MC)). It is necessary to look for new technique help decision making to selectalternative refrigerants, to fulfill the goals of the international protocols (Montreal and Kyoto)and optimum operation, to satisfy the growing worldwide demand, in addition the increase outdoortemperature in some countries.This study provides a developed methodology for evaluating ACS performance. Moreover, it helpsto select a robust decision. The results obtained from AHP process that the best rank of the suitablerefrigerant was R404 (0.3763) followed by R22 (0.3657) and so on for the other. Therefore,the proposed methodology can help the decision maker to select the best alternative for bothcriteria (qualitative and quantitative) in complex selecting process.
Indeed, there are many hydrology variables influence on the operating of dam and reservoir system. Thus, modelling of dam operation is a complicated issue due to the nonlinearity of such hydrological parameters. Hence, the identification of a modern model with a high capacity to cope with the operation of the dam is extremely important. The current research introduced good an optimization algorithm, namely Genetic Algorithm (GA) to find best operation rules. The main aim of the suggested algorithm is to minimize the difference between irrigation demand and water release value. The developed algorithm was applied to find operation rules for Timah Tasoh Dam, Malaysia. This research used significant evaluation indexes to examine the algorithms' performance. The results indicated that the GA method achieved low Vulnerability, high Resilience and Reliability. It has been demonstrated that the GA method will be a promising tool in dealing with the problem of dam operation.
The increase in traffic volumes at intersections is one of the important problems that makes difficulties in the traffic movement then leads to traffic congestion in these facilities.The objective of the present study is improvement the traffic operation of the selected intersection (Al-Zeoat intersection) in Al-Ramadi city by analysis and evaluation this intersection and using accepted solutions to improve the traffic operation of Al-Zeoat intersection under local exist conditions and present a best proposal to enhance the performance at the intersection.To achieve these objectives, the traffic volumes data collection and geometric layout for Al-Zeoat intersection that required for the traffic and geometrical analysis were gathered manually, while SIDRA traffic program is used for the requirements of traffic analysis process.
The aim of this paper is to in investigate the performance characteristics of counter flow wet cooling towers experimentally by varying air and water temperatures, fins angle, rate of air flow, rate of water flow as well as the evaporation heat transfer, along the height of the tower. The analysis of the theoretical results revealed before that the thermal performance of the cooling tower is sensitive to the degree of saturation of inlet air. Hence, the cooling capacity of the cooling tower increases with decreasing inlet air temperature whereas the overall water temperature fall is curtailed with increasing water to air mass ratio. From the experimental study the efficiency of the cooling tower and cooling tower characteristics are higher in case of low mass flow ratio due to higher contact area of water to air. Because of better contact area between airs to water the drop in performance of the cooling tower is less. The effect of fins angle on the thermal performance of counter flow wet cooling tower was predicted. The experimental study showed that the cooling range, cooling coefficient, , heat load , change in air relative humidity and cooling tower effectiveness increased with increasing fins angles and optimum fins angle obtained from this experimental work was 70 degree, at this angle all cooling tower performance has been calculated were better. While the approach increased with decreasing fins angles, the minimum approach was obtained for 70 degree fins angles and the maximum approach was obtained for 30 degree fins angles.
This paper investigates the possibility of strengthening Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams under pure torsion loadings. The torsional behaviour of strengthened RC beams with near-surface mounted steel and CFRP bars was investigated. The verification with the experimental work was performed to ensure the validity and accuracy which revealed a good agreement through the torque-rotation relationship, ultimate torque, and rotation, and crack pattern. This numerical study included testing of thirteen specimens (one of them was control beams while the remaining 12 were strengthened beams) with several parameters such as mounting spacing and configuration. The analytical results revealed that the addition of NSM rebar redistributed the internal stresses and enhanced the ultimate torsional strength, torque-rotation capacity, ductility, and energy absorption of the concrete beams. Most of the strengthened beams revealed the appearance of the cracks at a phase less than the reference beam by an average of (9%). Concerning the NSM strengthening, the CFRP bars provided a higher enhancement ratio when compared with the beams that strengthened with NSM steel rebar especially for the strengthening space equal to 130 mm and more. The ultimate torsional strength increased by (3.5%) and rotation decreased by (4%) approximately when the steel rebar was replaced by the carbon bar. The ductility and energy absorption of the analysed beams showed that the strengthening enhanced the ductility of the twisted beams. The ductility values varied according to the method of strengthening used, as it showed the highest values of the beam that was strengthened small spacing.
The performance of electronic devices, especially computers, depends on the efficiency of the electronic chips and Computer processing units, which are mainly made of semiconductors, so their working efficiency is inversely proportional to their working temperature. Therefore, this paper presents an experimental investigation of the design, implementation, and testing of three cooling systems to maintain the temperature of the processing unit as minimum as possible. The first is a traditional system dissipates heat from the working fluid to the air through a finned tube heat exchanger. The second successive hybrid system was designed to integrate with the first one in addition to a thermoelectric cooling system to cool the working fluid. The third system included in addition to the traditional heat dissipation one, an intercooler cylinder with a large quantity of the working fluid in the main system beside a separate system for cooling the working fluid using thermoelectric cooling to ensure sufficient cooling of the processing units when working at high frequencies by providing a large capacity of working fluid pre-cooled to a low temperature. Comparing the experimental results of the cooling systems with the traditional one under the same test conditions showed that the second system led to a reduction in the temperature of the processing unit by 5.2%, while employing the third system reduced the temperature to 11.3%., When the thermoelectric cooling unit operates at a performance factor of about 1.76.
The thermal and acoustic isolation properties of unsaturated polyester composites reinforced by palm waste filler have been experimentally investigated. The composites have been prepared using hand lay-up technique with filler weight fraction of (0%, 3%, 5% and 7%). Three types of palm waste that (Date seed, old leaf bases and petiole) were ground and sieved separately to produce the filler with particle size ≤ 400µm. Thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat capacity were examined using Hot Disk thermal analyses. The acoustic isolation property examined in a sound-insulated box. The experimental results show that the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of the composite specimens reinforced by seed or old leaf bases filler increased with increasing the fillers weight fraction. While increasing the petiole filler decreased the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity by 19% and 40% respectively at 5% weight fraction as compared with a pure unsaturated polyester material. So, the composite reinforced with petiole filler has improved the thermal insulation properties. The composites samples reinforced with palm waste show higher sound absorption in compared to the pure unsaturated polyester material. The sound absorption properties of composite reinforced with 7% old leaf bases filler improved by 15% and 23% at low and high frequency respectively rather than of pure unsaturated polyester material.
The behaviour of high-strength fiber reinforced concrete columns was observed with a testing program of 7 columns, loaded eccentrically. The theory was analyzed by modifying the stress block diagram of concrete. The experimental results show that using high-strength fiber reinforced concrete with fiber volume fraction of 1.0%, increased the column ultimate capacity up to 40% in addition to increasing its ductility and toughness, significantly. The proposed theoretical analysis gave a good estimation of experimental results.
Since concrete is one of the most popularly utilized building mixtures in construction, a high demand of natural resources is significantly emerged. Therefore, a skyrocketed attention has been paid to create new opportunities for the use of recycle materials to develop a new construc-tion substance with more satisfactory properties. The use of waste products in concrete is not only economical, but it helps in solid waste management as well. Among various properties of concrete, thermal conductivity is a crucial factor that plays an important role in in building insu-lation by evaluating a material's capacity to transfer heat. This paper aims to review the potential application of waste materials in concrete as additive ingredients and investigate the effect of this waste material on thermal conductivity of concrete. The review of literature revealed that the application of most of the waste materials exhibited an obvious potential as thermal insulator. However, further investigated work is needed to highlight the advantages of utilizing waste mate-rials in concrete containing various type of waste materials
The world is moving now to the energy of water to generate electric power and too much on several considerations, most important is that this energy is a clean and renewable energies as well as reasonably available. So we are going to create a small hydro power stations with limited power can be linked via the national grid or the completion of feeding limited areas to ease the load on the national network in addition to low cost of establishment and the costs of power processed. And now that we need t this specification at this stage and the availability of waterways and weirs in the governorate of AL-anbar has been building this research. We have in this search by selecting the barrage of Fallujah for the establishment of a hydroelectric plant it was a survey of geographical and engineering on the site of this barrage was recorded the water levels over the full year and found that the height of the water in which at least 3.5 meters, so the choice of equipment needed to build a hydroelectric plant with capacity of (140) KW aided with catalogues of well known international companies and accredited globally.
The development of cities in the infrastructure and urbanization and the increase in the population make people increase in the purchase of the private car, which in turn causes the congestion , pollution , accident and noise especially after 2003, as Iraq's import of cars increased to 5,800,000 cars distributed between the provinces, as 3Anbar province ranked ninth in the development number of cars with 174,000 cars according to the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Ministry of Planning. The university is the largest governmental institution that has the largest traffic volume of vehicles. We have three directions for entering the Anbar university they are east, middle and west directions. Total traffic volume from east, middle and west direction is 2165 vehicles which lead to traffic congestion in Ramadi city and Anbar university. The total traffic volume in private transportation in east, middle and west direction is 727,515 and 923 vehicles respectively. No of students in private transportation in east, middle and west direction is 4617, 3185 and3985 passengers respectively. As results of this research, there are three proposed parks one of them in the Sujaria at east direction, second park in Ramadi center at middle direction and third park in 5km area at west direction. In this paper, we make comparing between private and public transport in terms of fuel costs and time from the origin (the three proposed parks) to destination (Anbar University) assuming that private cars stopped in those three parks by using Park & Ride System and used buses with capacity of 40 passengers to transport students to the university. Depending on no. of passengers in private transportation from the three proposed parks to university we got the No. of buses from east park (Sujaria area), middle park (Ramadi center) and west park (7km area) to university which were 28, 20 and 25 bus respectively because each bus can transport four times.
Agricultural, industrial, and household debris can be employed as biosorbents to extract heavy metals from water that has been contaminated. Kitchen waste includes, among other things, peels from promotional gates, lemons, avocados, apples, kiwis, watermelons, and onions. Moreover, coffee and tea grounds are considered to be household refuse. This review illustrates the scholarly investigations that explored the potential of various waste materials as adsorbents for wastewater treatment. An extensive array of experiments was conducted to determine the variables that influence the capacity of these materials to adsorb heavy metals. To undertake the experiments above, different concentrations of biosorbent were introduced into the effluent at various contact times and pH levels. The researchers investigated the effects of varying these parameters and found that the biosorbent's ability to adsorb heavy metals is directly proportional to these factors. The results and conclusion indicated that the impact of biosorbent concentration and contact duration on the pH of contaminated water was assessed. To encourage the incorporation of industrial, agricultural, and household refuse into water treatment processes rather than permitting it to accumulate as an environmental hazard.
An experimental study was done on a solar water heater which consists of two prisms of orthogonal triangle cross-section with a 210 liters capacity . The heater was easy to make and has a low cost when comparted with other types of solar water heaters that it usually the collector separate on the water store. The study included experimental investigations , the experimental investigation was done under the Iraqi environmental conditions at Baghdad for the period in summer and winter seasons in 2006 but the calculation for only two days 15/7/2006 and 6/12/2006 . The study included testing the heater with & without loading and it tested in 13/12/2006and14/12/2006. draining hot water from storage tank at different rates . The experimental result show the ability to get hot water at 46oC at December i.e. a temperature rise at 30oC with 16oC initial temperature .
