The most popular evolutionary search techniques are genetic algorithms (GAs). Even though they are frequently used to solve control engineering problems, they are currently not a common tool in the control engineer's toolbox. This may be due in part to the fact that there are currently few general overviews of the employment of GAs for control engineering problems, and that they are often reported on at computer science conferences rather than conferences for control engineers. This review study is intended to assist researchers and practitioners in identifying prospective research issues, potential solutions, as well as advantages and disadvantages of each technique. This study gives a brief overview of contemporary a Genetic Algorithm (GA) in control systems. Additionally, offers a number of control techniques used with the GA that have undergone extensive research. The conclusion of this study listed in a table to show the effectiveness of GA in various control technique and which field didn’t used till the time of preparing this review.
This study aims to examine the relationship between the corrosion rate of longitudinal tensile steel bars and the maximum flexural strength of reinforced concrete RC beams. The study's methodology is designed to show the structural behavior of corroded and non-corroded RC beams, such as ultimate load, deflection, stiffness, crack patterns, and failure mode. Three rectangular beams were cast with dimensions (150× 200 ×1200) mm, and all specimens have the same amount of longitudinal and transverse reinforcement and the same concrete strength. The major parameter is the theoretical mass loss level due to corrosion (0, 10, 15) %. Electrochemical technique was used to accelerate the corrosion in the longitudinal tensile bars. All RC beams were tested under four-point monotonic loading. The test results confirm that the cracking load in corroded beams decreased by 25% comparative to the non- corroded beam. The increase of the percent of corrosion experimental mass loss by 8.25 and 14.15 % decreased the ultimate load by about 14 % and 27%, respectively. This reduction coincided with the decrease in deflection values in mid-span for the ultimate load, which decreased by 53.9% and 46.3%. However, the flexural stiffness was reduced by 13.4 and 15.6% for corroded beams with mass loss (8.25 and 14.15), respectively, compared to the control beam (non-corroded RC beam).
A steam boiler is a metal vessel in which a particular liquid is heated to steam. Steam is used in the production of energy in several areas as most boilers convert water to steam used in heating buildings and others. Steam boilers are exposed to corrosion and sediment as a result of salts dissolved in water, which may lead to increased temperature inside the boiler and thus the boiler explosion. The research included finding a suitable way to solve the problem of sedi-ment and corrosion by adding suitable chemicals to get rid of the dissolved salts inside the water and maintain steam boiler. To control this problem, the control system is designed to control the amount of salts in the water in the steam boiler using PLC.
Matrix converters (MCs) have attracted significant interest and found extensive applications across multiple industries owing to their desirable characteristics. These include the capability to produce sinusoidal currents at both input and output, substantial size reduction, and enhanced reliability by minimizing significant passive components. This paper explores the potential of MC technology as a viable alternative to conventional AC-DC-AC converters in industrial applications. It discusses recent advancements in MC structural configurations, modulation/control algorithms, and multiphase structures and control systems. The paper offers an in-depth review of modern industrial uses of MC technology. It also delves into different methods for managing induction motors, particularly the DTC (Direct Torque Control) approach. The study explores the intricacies of DTC and its relationship with SVM. The primary research objective is to examine the performance of an IM when operated with an SVPWM inverter, focusing on harmonic analysis of voltages and currents. Various PWM methods regulate the voltage and frequency supplied to the IM. Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and SVPWM are the two most commonly used 3-phase Voltage Source Inverter strategies. The growing adoption of SVPWM is driven by its ability to reduce harmonic content in voltage and enhance the fundamental output voltage of the IM. Consequently, this study models a DTC-SVM theory-driven IM using MATLAB/SIMULINK to control the speed of induction motors. The following values were calculated for the system: Quality factor=2.236, Damping ratio=4.45, and the cut-off frequency (fc=355.88H).
Diesel electrical generators are essential for providing reliable backup power during grid outages, ensuring the continuous operation of critical services such as hospitals, industries, and communication systems. These generators require instantaneous monitoring and control to optimize their performance and longevity. The Internet of Things facilitates efficient monitoring and enables remote control with a faster response time than human intervention, thereby helping to prevent potential damage or system failures. This research introduced the Internet of Things technology and its general architecture. The study first presented an abstract framework of IoT-based monitoring and controlling technology, divided into three layers: perception, network, and application. It then discussed the terminology related to electrical generators, the parameters monitored, and their operational environments. In addition, the advantages and challenges associated with integrating it with electrical generators were discussed. Finally, the research reviewed and analyzed several practical applications and case studies integrating IoT with diesel electrical generators, highlighting key challenges and proposing solutions. This work provided theoretical and practical insights into IoT-based monitoring and control systems for electrical generators.
This paper presents a method for controlling the speed of a DC motor that is energized individually by utilizing a DC-DC Buck converter that is fed from a DC source. It can be easily controlled with the help of different types of DC-DC converters. This project was introduced a study and analyses of the buck DC to DC converter with PID controller cascaded with DC motors which is simulated in MATLAB. The required speed of the DC motor can then be obtained by giving a variable regulated voltage to the armature of the DC motor. A controller of the proportional-integral type is utilized so that the user can adjust both the amount of current flowing through the DC motor as well as the rate at which it rotates. These controllers allow for a quick control response. In addition to that, this paper presents a Simulink model for a DC motor that was created with Matlab Simulink. The purpose behind the development of the current and speed controller was to achieve stable and high-speed control of the DC motor. The final step is the display of the simulation results for the proposed system, which show that they are consistent with the expected results. This paper shown the DC motors was able to reach the necessary speed within a few attempts; however, as the load rose, the settling time increased as well.
The term "fire safety engineering" refers to the process of applying scientific and engineering principles to the effects of fire in order to lessen the number of deaths and property damage caused by fire. This is done by determining the risks that are involved and providing the most effective method for implementing measures of prevention or protection. The paper showing experimental results of ordinary concrete columns made of "NSC" subjected to axial load and cyclic firing is presented in this study. the bearing capacity of the column decreased. all samples have been loading an eccentric load with "e = 75 mm" ,"e / h = 0.50," and the ratio Celsius (30%Pu) continuously through the burning period. The first column(C1) was the sample control with out exposure cyclic fire , and the second column was subjected to four burning cycles over the course of four days, with a duration specific of "45 minutes" for each cycle, at a temperature of "400 °C", and the third column was subjected to four burning cycles over the course of four days, with a duration longer amount of "75 minutes" for each cycle, at a temperature of "400 °C, ", the four column was subjected to four burning cycles over the course of an of four days, with a duration specific of "45 minutes" for each cycle, at a temperature of "600 °C " , the bearing capacity of the column decreased. that to be amount losses (C2,C3 and C4) comparison to (C1) equile ( 27.20 , 29.12, and 36.40)% respectively. the fracture load of the experimental columns varied by decreasing with these variables. Additionally, the depth and spread of the cracks increased with the increase in burning duration and target temperature.
Advanced prosthetics are a crucial aspect of rehabilitation technology and are receiving increased attention globally. Approximately 2 million people require prosthetic limbs, presenting opportunities for enhancing their quality of life. State-of-the-art technologies such as realistic arms and myoelectric prostheses are gaining popularity. Progress in sensor technology, artificial intelligence, and materials has driven the field forward. Various types of controllers, including direct, pattern recognition, and proportional-derivative, have been developed. Integration of material science, computer science, artificial intelligence, and neurology has facilitated controller advancements. Techniques like targeted muscle reinnervation and Osseo integrated prostheses offer improved surgical options. Gesture recognition technologies and intelligent sensors are enhancing hand control. Future advancements will involve machine learning, artificial intelligence, and sensing techniques, while ethical concerns must be addressed. Advanced myoelectric prostheses, also known as myocontrolled or lower-limb micromod investigative prostheses, have a patient acceptance rate of 75% to 80%. However, while these methods offer advantages, there are also drawbacks. Integrating different types of controllers for these smart prostheses and enhancing the overall device's strength and robustness will have a significant impact. Hilla cities center of province Babil is one of the most important cities in Iraq 100 km (62 mi) south of Baghdad .its relate the Governorate Baghdad with Governorates south Al-Thawra signalized intersection is one of the most important intersections in AL-Hilla city Being a major crossing point to the governorates of holy Karbala and Baghdad.The excessive traffic volumes, during the peak periods (at morning and evening), of vehicles that entering the intersection increase traffic density, reduce travel speed, increase travel time, and increase the delay values This paper aims to assess the traffic performance of Al-thawra signalized intersection in Babil city that is consistent with the existing conditions and intersection's geometric properties. For all approaches, video recording has been used to collect traffic volume data. These data are taken out of videos from Babil police cameras (department of communications and information systems)..The intersection was evaluated and analyzed using the SYNCHRO 10.0 software, and the best option was selected. The outcome of the evaluation process indicated that the intersection is operated at the level of service (LOS F) and with a control delay of 162.5 seconds.by recommending a variety of strategies, ranging from signal optimization to geometric enhancements. The suggestion of widening the pavement in the north-south direction was found to be the best solution. resulting in a decrease in vehicle delays from 162.2 seconds to 95.4 seconds and the level of service remains constant (LOS F) considered an acceptable and cost-effective solution to the intersection's problems.
The present research is devoted to solve the problem of high energy consumption by air conditioners in summer. In order to eliminate domestic electricity for cooling purposes and rely directly on solar energy isolated from the grid connection and increases the performance of the solar panel by using front water spray cooling system for the panel, and by using Adruino as controller to control the cooling system. The experimental system setup arranged in Iraq at Al-taje site during the summer season at a room. The proposed system consists of an array of photovoltaic, battery used to store power, PWM charge controller, and DC air cooler, Adruino. During the examination of the system, The enhancement of the solar panel has a positive effect on long-term batteries and improves the battery life by which the charge and discharge when combined with a direct photovoltaic air conditioning system without refrigeration. Excess power generated from the PV panels is storage in the batteries, which make the system is the most familiar with Iraq's summer conditions
Flow of crude oil in pipelines suffers from a problem of fluid flow pressure drop and high energy consumption for fluid pumping. Flow can be enhanced using either viscosity reduction or drag reduction techniques. Drag reduction (DR) is considered as a most effective and most applicable method. The technique contributes in reducing the frictional energy losses during the flow by addition of little amounts from drag reducing agents. The present work focuses on preparation and application of a new natural and low cost material derived from palm fiber (PF) that has been tested as a drag reducing agent (DRA) for crude oil flow enhancement. This objective has been achieved through designing and constructing of an experimental rig consisting of: a crude oil pipe, oil pump, pressure sensors, solenoid valve and programmable logic control. The additive material (PF) is prepared with different diameters (75µm, 125µm, 140µm) and tested with different concentrations as: 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 mg/L for reducing the drag inside the oil pipe. The experimental results showed that the fiber with 125µm diameter and 100ppm is the best where the percentage of drag reduction reached 43%. Furthermore, the results of this work proved that PF is an efficient and low cost DRA that can be applied successfully in crude oil pipelines as well as its contribution in the waste management.
Turning is the most popular machining operation. The quality of the product may be determined using a variety of metrics, such as the surface generation method and the surface roughness of the product. This work uses cutting variables to obtain the best surface quality through a mathematical model. The suggested surface generation in this work results from deriving it using the Bezier technique, with degree (5th) having six chosen control points. One of the critical indicators of the quality of machined components is the surface roughness created during the machining process. Surface roughness improvement via machining process parameter optimization has been extensively researched. The Taguchi Method and actual tests were employed for evaluating the surface quality of complicated forms; regression models with three different variables for the cutting process, such as cutting speed, depth of cut, and feed rate, were also used. According to the experimental findings, the most significant effect of feed rate on the surface roughness is approximately (40.9%), and the more minor effect of depth of cut on the surface roughness is almost (16.23%). In addition, the average percentage error is 4.93%, the maximum error is 0.14 mm, and the minimum error is -0.143 mm for the prediction using the regression equation.
This paper investigates the possibility of strengthening Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams under pure torsion loadings. The torsional behaviour of strengthened RC beams with near-surface mounted steel and CFRP bars was investigated. The verification with the experimental work was performed to ensure the validity and accuracy which revealed a good agreement through the torque-rotation relationship, ultimate torque, and rotation, and crack pattern. This numerical study included testing of thirteen specimens (one of them was control beams while the remaining 12 were strengthened beams) with several parameters such as mounting spacing and configuration. The analytical results revealed that the addition of NSM rebar redistributed the internal stresses and enhanced the ultimate torsional strength, torque-rotation capacity, ductility, and energy absorption of the concrete beams. Most of the strengthened beams revealed the appearance of the cracks at a phase less than the reference beam by an average of (9%). Concerning the NSM strengthening, the CFRP bars provided a higher enhancement ratio when compared with the beams that strengthened with NSM steel rebar especially for the strengthening space equal to 130 mm and more. The ultimate torsional strength increased by (3.5%) and rotation decreased by (4%) approximately when the steel rebar was replaced by the carbon bar. The ductility and energy absorption of the analysed beams showed that the strengthening enhanced the ductility of the twisted beams. The ductility values varied according to the method of strengthening used, as it showed the highest values of the beam that was strengthened small spacing.
Designing an integrated communications system with efficient features is important to researchers and designers. This paper deals with a review of the most important technologies and applications that combine solar cells and communication systems such as Li-Fi technology and its principle of operation, which is a wireless system in which the optical signal is used as a carrier signal as an alternative to the traditional radio frequencies used in Wi-Fi networks, where Li-Fi relies on LED to transmit data, and at high speeds that exceed Wi-Fi technology. Solar Power Satellite (SPS) technology where the satellite is placed in a geostationary orbit in the equatorial plane. As well as the application of photovoltaic solar cells in the SOLPLANT planar antenna, and the replacement of the radiating element of the antenna with a solar cell. The solar cell can transmit and receive electromagnetic signals as well as generate direct current and can be used as antennas either as a single solar cell or group cells and has wide applications in wireless, mobile, Bluetooth and satellite systems. The solar cell has also been applied in Micro strip antenna called Solan , where the solar cell antenna can be considered as a platform for many communication applications and can also be adopted as a radio frequency transmitter and receiver. As well as the design of many antennas integrated with solar cells and compatible with the 5G communication system , in addition to the presence of many applications that combined smart phones and solar cells. This study showed that these technologies and applications provided clean, safe, high-efficiency, high-speed, data-transferring communication systems with low cost.
The purpose of this paper is to present a new method to establish a kinematic model for different manipulators, whose can be simulate the move in a two-dimensional workspace.The model is applied and implemented to four robot arm manipulators witha different DOF.The first step of modelling a robot is establishing its mathematical model parameters. It requires assigning proper length and angle for each link and creation rotational matrics. Simulation based on Matlabsoftware was implemented for finding their workspace
Designing large structures like dams requires carefully selecting various geometric, hydraulic, and structural characteristics. The required structural design and performance criteria are considered when selecting these characteristics. In order to find the best solution, a variety of restrictions must simultaneously be carefully taken into account. This study presents an effective method for determining the optimal shape design for concrete buttress dams. The research was divided into two crucial phases. The dam's initial design and subsequent modeling were mostly done using DIANA FEA and traditional design and stability analysis. After that, a genetic algorithm was used on the MATLAB platform to control optimizing the dam's shape. Three design factors were used in this phase to alter the goal function and to reduce the amount of Concrete used, which decreased project costs. These variables covered three areas of the buttress's cross-section. Two important limitations were scrutinized during this optimization process: establishing a safety margin against overtopping and preventing sliding. The analysis included a detailed assessment of Shear friction stability to complete a thorough stability study. The optimization efforts had a spectacular result, resulting in a significant 52.365% reduction in the total volume of Concrete used, dropping from 19147.5 cubic meters to 9122.55 cubic meters. This decrease was made possible by reducing three distinct components (X1, X2, X3), with respective proportions of 37.5%, 13.33%, and 30%, including two segments related to the buttress and the final segment linked (slab) to the strip footing.
Hydraulic actuators are one of the most viable choices due to their high power-to-weight ratio,low cost, robustness, fast response and great power supply. The present work focuses onbuilding an elevator prototype model simulates real hydraulic elevator. This model consists ofhydraulic parts (double-acting hydraulic cylinders, pump, valves, pipeline and filter) andelectronic parts (PLC, push-bottoms, relays and encoder). It is built with three floors in about300 cm height (total with the cylinder) to elevate a 30 kg payload and controlled by a PLCcontroller of (DELTA DVP-ES32) with 16 inputs and 16 outputs. The PLC receives input signals asorders from the operator as well as sensors and encoders. The PLC is programmed with WPSOFT2.46 Ladder diagram software to basically calling the elevator cabin through three locations andenabling its arrival at the desired floor. The cabin descent is achieved by using a proportionalcontrol valve which is controlled by the PLC. The cabin door is automatically opened and closedby DC motors. It is observed that, the application of this partnership between the PLC and theproportional valve in the build model helped to achieve excellent results in terms of systemcontrol and its efficiency, response, and smoothness.
